Vindicating HashishAddicts Everywhere

It just struck me:

We're missing 22 Dalek episodes but only 9 Cybermen episodes - and 3 of those are now animated (with another 2 on the way). Ergo, Cybermen WIN!!! BOOYAH, KALEDS! BOOYAH!

If only the public had agreed...

Oh, zoze Mondans...

Surely there are plenty of other people who prefer the Cybermen?

..well, I guess not since the new series has dealt them such a bum hand. (No, still haven't seen the Neil Gaiman one)

I was referring to 1960s Cybermania, but...

As for Nightmare in Silver... I'm not actually sure it's a very good Cyberman story. It's a great episode, and I like it, and, yes, it gives shitloads of a new Time War esque Cyber mythology (making them without doubt the biggest threat in the season, far worse than the Daleks), I dunno if it's a good Cyberman story.

On the edge of spoilerhood, it's like the Moonbase with most of the plot being Cybermen seiging a base (in an admittedly awesome manner, including what seems to be sadism for shits and giggles to lure humans into traps) while the rest concerns the Doctor.

See, he get a Cyber implant in his brain but because he's a Time Lord, he's able to switch between his usual self and his evil self. And his evil self is also awesome (image if he was taken over by the Mara) but it's supposed to be the Cyber-Controller.

So there are good bits, but I dunno if they're Cyberman worthy. I mean, the Doctor sweetly telling Clara "It's time for you to die. Pointlessly. And very far away from home." genuinely creeped me out, but is that what a Cyberman would try and psyche out someone with?

OTOH, "You have stupid earth brains. Clever. Clever. Clever."

I'm not holding out great hope for it, but if Bleeding Cool's latest report that the 90 episodes negotiations ground to a halt after a certain Caroline Skinner was kicked off Doctor Who are anywhere near correct...
then we might be seeing them all when Moffat's out the door. Add another reason to the list, then.

The rule of thumb for Doctor Who monster stories is "can this story be told with any other monsters". You could tell the Doctor's internal debate story with pretty much any monster, but the threat of blowing up the planet side does need something spectacular. It does do a lot better than, say, "The Next Doctor" at suggesting that Cybermen are terrifying threats that are genuinely scary.

Except, TND is not trying to make the Cybermen terrifying - they are there as a recognized monster to fight an unknown Doctor. The Cybermen have enough street cred that if they say Jackson is a future Doctor, we'll go with it, but stupid enough not to notice a genuine Time Lord standing with them.

Could TND be told with any other monsters? I can't think of any.
